This small family run, award winning, hotel is run by the Moore family. Located, literally, on the border with Scotland, it is also the home of the Sportsman’s Restaurant, where Chef/Patron Richard Moore excels with his culinary skills, using produce in season and sourced locally wherever possible. With six rooms within the house and two self contained annexes it is an ideal location for breaking a long journey or provides easy access for adventures in the Borderlands. Photo-stalking of our deer is now available for non-stalkers.

Having seen these water boilers in use in western Ireland, in the early 1970’s, John Grindlay and some colleagues decided that the time had come when these wonderful water boilers should be manufactured in quantity so that they could be made available to fishermen and sportsmen,
Nowadays, the Storm Kettle is a vital piece of equipment for sportsmen and expedition organisers. The simplicity of the product means that boiling water is always available without the need to use gas, petrol or any other artificial fuel.

The Wild Trout Trust is a registered charity working with landowners, community groups and fishing clubs across the UK and Ireland to protect and enhance habitat for our wild brown trout. Its Conservation Officers deliver Advisory and Practical Visits to provide good habitat in the river and on the banks for all species – otters, water voles, kingfishers and dippers all benefit, as well as trout.

Y Gwyniad has been open for twelve years and we endeavour to help and advise all anglers who visit us, be they local or visiting the area. In addition to a range of fishing gear we also stock a wide range of flies, many of which are hand made on site. Llyn Brenig is recognised as one of the best top-of-the-water fisheries in the UK. Stocked with rainbow trout, fishing is by fly only. The fish are reared on site, in the cold Brenig water and are fully acclimatised. They have a deserved reputation as fierce fighters. The lake is best fished by boat - boat hire being available by advance booking. Permits are available for multi-method fishing at the adjacent Alwen reservoir. The on-site shop has tackle and permits. The Brenig café serves one of the best breakfasts around. Pike fishing is also available, please ring the fishing shop for further information.
