NEWS - First Quarter 2023

My apologies for this news page being slightly delayed. It has been somewhat hectic these last few weeks.

WILD TROUT TRUST

The WTT Spring Auction went well this year and raised, in the final total, some £92,622, described as astonishing by WTT Director Shaun Leonard. He went on to add “We are utterly overwhelmed by the support shown by our donors, bidders, members and supporters in raising this record sum. All our auction lots are given to the WTT for free, and because we run our own auction website, 100% of the money, apart from any credit card fees, will be put to good use for wild trout and our river and lakes. Thank you so much."

MEMORIES

I thought that, for a change, I would like to share with you some memories. It may help you understand why guides, like myself, do what we do! Enjoy

WORLD FISH MIGRATION FOUNDATION

This Netherlands based Foundation has suggested that you might like to make a diary note – well in advance for 2024. Mark your calendar: World Fish Migration Day (WFMD) it will be back on the 25th of May 2024! It will celebrate “Fish in the Food Chain”. Not only do fish guarantee the proper functioning of ecosystems but they directly influence our livelihoods. The disruption of migratory cycles has an effect on what is on our plates. For this reason, WFMD aims to educate people on the ecological, cultural, economic and recreational importance of protecting endangered species and restoring migratory habitats. If you cannot wait that long, you might be interested in the Dam Removal Conference which is to be held in Manchester on the 18th and 19th of May 2023! Having attended one of these on-line events previously I can assure you it is well worth it.

THE INSTITUTE OF FISHERIES MANAGEMENT

The Institute is hosting a three day Conference on the 11th – 13th of July 2023 in Liverpool. It will address the latest data and initiatives on “fish impingement and entrainment”.

AND FINALLY!

I have now received information on fishing the River Annan, which is just over the border, in Scotland. Like the proverbial buses, having waited, I had information on two seperate beats where day tickets are possible. These seem to me to be reasonably priced. The Annan is well known for its sizeable trout!
I plan to go and explore when I get the opportunity. Should you wish to join, me please let me know with an email to llynguides@dnetw.co.uk
